Ex-NSCDC boss warns FG against merging corps with police

A retired Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Desmond Agu, has warned against moves to convince the Federal Government to merge the corps with the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, saying it would worsen the security challenges in the country. Agu, who until his retirement was a commandant in six states, urged the Federal Government to shun any individual lobbying for such a merger, adding that those seeking the merger were ignorant of the roles of NSCDC as a special purpose security vehicle. Naira depreciation: Investors lose N673bn in NGX

Investors at the Nigerian exchange market experienced a decline again on Wednesday, losing N673 billion in market capitalisation due to sell-offs in major stocks like MTN Nigeria and Transcorp Hotel amid the depreciation of the Naira against the Dollar at the foreign exchange market. The market capitalisation shed 1.20 per cent or N673 billion to close at N55.494 trillion, compared to 56.167 trillion recorded on Tuesday. A 33-year-old man named Stanley Julius has been remanded in a corrections center on allegations of armed robbery by the Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court. On Thursday at the Federal High Court in Lagos, the alleged money laundering trial of former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, was stalled due to the absence of Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, who was on an official assignment.
